Tigran Martikyan

“Tigran Martikyan is the fastest-rising talent of his generation. He is a pianist to be reckoned with technique, taste, and fresh originality” George Avakian (producer) After years playing various instruments since the age of six, Tigran today extends his repertory beyond his beloved jazz, composing classical pieces as well as music for motion pictures and choreography. His music has won awards and praises, including from the legendary Chick Korea who calls his music “ intellectual.” In 2001, the New York Post presented Tigran as one of “New York’s most promising young jazz musicians,” while his music was being aired on the “Bet on Jazz” program of the Jazz Discovery Showcase. Martikyan has been featured on Bloomberg Radio in New York, the Armenian radio hour in New Jersey, Voice of Armenian TV in New York as well as various Armenian TV stations in Los Angeles and Armenia. In 2001, Tigran's music aired on “Bet on Jazz” Jazz Discovery showcase several times through out the US Middle east and Asia. His album Why, which was featured in the Regis & Kelly show in 2003, represents the creation of a jazz quartet with Loren Stillman, Daniel Weiss, and Thomas Morgan, culminating in the merging of older international folk traditions with the hyper-eclectic sounds and strains of contemporary New York. Mr. Martikyan has given a number of concerts across the US and Europe, including his world premiere of “Piano Sextet” at Carnegie Hall in 2008, and at Monte Carlo in 2002. Today in Los Angeles, Tigran juggles his time composing, providing private lessons to professionals and recreational beginners, and performing concerts in the US and aboard. He is an adjunct instructor of Music Theory and Music Appreciation courses at the LA Academy of Figurative Art and is the organist/choir director at the New Haven Missionary Baptist Church. Tigran has just completed his solo piano album A Trip to New York, recorded live at the Armenian Evangelical Church of New York, and is currently working on his new album entitled My Hometown Armenia.
